Welcome
You've reached KMP Technolgies. This site is dedicated to helping small and medium
sized businesses make sense of today's technologies. Rather than being a site dedicated
to other technical folks, kmptech.net is geared towards folks that don't necessarily
want to learn the specific ins and outs of technology, but are just looking for
advice on the best options for their companies as far as cost, ease of use, and availability.
KMPtech.net re-released!
KMP Technologies is my attempt to put down on the web the things that I have learned
after over 10 years of working in the IT industry for small and medium sized businesses
in the southern california area. There is obviously a lot of work on the site that needs
to be finished, but this is just the start. Because of my work with small and
medium sized businesses, I have been asked to wear many hats. I have been as a systems
analyst, database administrator, network engineer, desktop suppurt specialist, and some times
web developer.
Having had such a different variety of things that I have learned during my career, I find
that some times when I learn a new skill, it can be difficult to keep up with the old skills.
With that in mind I'll attempt to put up things that I find to be trends in the technology
industry from my perspective so that others may benefit from what I have learned before I completely forget it. My perspective tends to be more aligned with business rather than the "coolness" of the technology. Because of this, business owners or whoever is looking for advice on the bigger picture of tecnology can use my reviews and opinions to make decisions of their own with company goals in mind.
Technology and Today's Economy
Today's economy is making it really difficult to survive for today's small
and medium sized businesses. Everyone is feeling the pinch, but one way to
help stop the bleeding is to be smart with your technology. It's easy to fall
into the trap of thinking that the latest cool gadget will propel your business
into uncharted profitability, but take a second to think that next purchase
through.
I'm a firm believer in people over technolgoy. Case in point, if your sales
staff can't make a sale, a new blackberry to enable them to be in constant
contact with customers generally will not help improve sales. Purchasing a
new CRM system may be fun, but generally the most it accomplishes is making
life easier for your sales staff that aren't making any sales.
During this time of low sales volume and jittery markets. Just remember to
be smart about your technology. Look at things that will reduce costs, like
finding cheaper anti-virus if your subscription is running out, or look into
free office suites instead of expensive Microsoft products. Or even better,
look at ways of bringing in new customers via new advertising or some other way
of bringing in new customers.
